I was too busy administrating on Friday (you bastards) to set one of these. I am always dissatisfied with the way guides break the city down into East 40s/50s v. West 40s/50s. If someone wants to eat in midtown, as many visitors especially do, there's no point directing them to restaurants on 11th Avenue.

So here's my geographical proposal:

Southside of 60th Street as the upper limit, down to north side of 34th; but a narrow corridor: 9th Avenue to 3rd Avenue (why don't we include both sides of the Avenues this time - seems artificial to do otherwise).

And remember: not looking for the kind of upscale restaurants where you make a reservation and travel to the area just to eat at them (unless they also offer interesting casual/bar eating). Looking for informal dining, street food, bars, shopping and other food/drink tips. And not everything we can think of - just what you'd tell people is the very best.

If the author could go around the place hitting random readers with a rubber hammer, the Pink Pig would still be worth a visit.

A seat at the communal "bar" tables at dB Bistro Moderne for the dB burger. Jimmy's Corner (possibly the best everyday bar in the entire city). Virgil's for the beer selection (and above average BBQ).

Masa itself is beyond this thread. Is there anything to be said about Bar Masa? Aren't Kuruma and Yasuda reservation places too?
