We're setting off from NJ after midnight on Sunday and planning to shoot straight down 95 til we hit Savannah around lunchtime... I have already scoured the Savannah thread, so I think we're good there, but does anyone have any suggestions for stops along the way?

On the way back at the end of the month we'll have more time for slow meandering detours, but, not this weekend...

thanks!

Stopping in North Carolina for barbecue is always a good idea. I've recently had some quality barbecue at Moore's, in Kenly, but there are lots of other good options right near I-95. My recommendation is to check out Holly Moore's NC page, and choose the option that best fits your lunchtime. They'll all be pretty good; Holly won't steer you wrong.

edit: oh, I just saw that you'll be driving all night! In that case, just stop at Waffle House. I love Waffle House, and they are all over the place.

Waffle House sounds very promising, do they have, er... waffles?!?! WHere do they start?

We're actually stopping at Philadelphia airport to collect a friend at midnight, then straight through from there...

Yes, waffles, of course. They have a full diner-style menu with breakfast food, burgers, etc. Their other featured item are hash browns, which aren't anywhere near the best hash browns you've had, but are strangely satisfying nonetheless. In general, WH's food is decent, and ridiculously cheap.

They are located all over the South (the first ones you'll encounter are in Maryland), and are open 24 hours. I make the drive to and from Savannah every so often, and find WH to always be a safe bet. And at 3 AM, it's pretty much your only bet...

Great, thanks!

I'm now strangely looking forward to waffles at 3am...
