There was a series of WSJ articles maybe last year on issues with violence at Chuck E. Cheese.

hummm

I'd normally respond with a cutting remark but my fangs seem to have been dulled today. (which was my reaction on seeing the blog post. the WSJ article puts things in a different light.)

And yet no warning about the disgusting food-like substances they serve?
“And another thing. You don't have to "move on" either. Not until you're ready. People say, Oh, you should be grateful. They say, Oh, it's time for you to move on. I'm like, What are you, a cop with a nightstick? I'll move on when I'm done playing the blues on my harmonica, thank you very much.

Really, people will tell you all kinds of garbage. Don't believe it.

You don't have to move on until you're ready.”

The food is bad. But the violence locally was far worse at a local Dave & Busters. One or two shootings as I recall. Probably a result of their machines appealing to older youngsters of gang banger age.
That shit cray.

The Chuck E. Cheese in East Hanover was a pretty tame place. Lots of little kids, families, etc. No signs to me, walking past, that gang activity was a problem there. I don't think they even had a security officer. It was in the AMC 12-plex theater complex.
My only complaint was that if they need to charge me $30 because they're robbing the duck to pay the boar they might as well give me a more substantial portion of flour, water, and bits of meat.

Whew! I wasn't paying attention and for a minute I thought this thread was in the Goodbye forum announcing Chuck E. Cheese's unfortunate death.

Suffocating under a pile of cheese curds.

And then there was the recent event where my own Councilwoman forced a local wings place to stop offering a cheap Tuesday-night deal because, she asserted, it induced the violence local youth committed when they gathered there.

I just noticed a similar sign at my public library. It lists additional prohibitions, including "engaging in sexual acts." Thank goodness that Chuck E. Cheese isn't quite that draconian.
It was hard to avoid the feeling that somebody, somewhere, was missing the point. I couldn't even be sure that it wasn't me. - Douglas Adams

Philip Roth wrote about engaging in sex acts with one's self in New Jersey libraries in Goodbye Columbus. It's been a New Jersey tradition since at least the late '50s.

Don't. When I borrowed Portnoy's Complaint from the local library many years ago, the pages were stuck together.
