“One thing kids like is to be tricked. For instance, I was going to take my little nephew to Disneyland, but instead I drove him to an old burned-out warehouse. 'Oh, no!', I said, 'Disneyland burned down.' He cried and cried, but I think that deep down he thought it was a pretty good joke. I started to drive over to the real Disneyland, but it was getting pretty late.”

How sad. I am a huge fan of his work. He was so talented.

Nor did I. Still, he seemed to have been vulnerable to dark moods. I worked with him a few times, in the early 00's, and I could tell by the level of nervousness displayed by his assistant whether he was approachable that day. When he was "up," he was darling, cheeky. I have to think that the recent loss of his mother, and the tragic suicide of his close friend, Isabella Blow, were simply too much for him to bear.
He was a brilliant tailor, a truly remarkable designer. RIP.

but as Pingarina noted, he was susceptible to dark moods and tortured. what a loss

McQueen's last collection was shown privately in Paris over the past two days. What talent and imagination.

i'm posting it here as i could not find a thread on the McQueen show at the Met, which was absolutely amazing. seeing pieces from various collections together was a treat. really drove home the loss of such great talent and unique point of view. beautifully staged, too. loved the razor clam shell dress, among many other pieces. unfortunately, the galleries were packed like subway at rush hour with all the attending crowds, jostling, BO, etc. - NOT what you expect in a museum
glad i was able to see it. worth checking out if they do take it on the road
