I was wondering when you were going to do this kind of thing. smile.gif

Seemed a waste not to put your blog to good use.

And this thread will be useful for people to point out the mistakes and typos (once they've bought and read it). Did I mention the digital download version is about the price of a drink?

Are Lulu paperbacks actually any good in terms of quality of printing?

Now if I paid Taion to say that he'd bought a copy and found the quality to be superb, Taion - if he failed to disclose the payment - would be a shill.

(If anyone would like to be a shill, please PM me.)

I'll start worrying about this thread when it reaches 152 pages.

I had considered approaching Rancho to do some kind of promotional deal, like giving away a bean with each copy.

But seriously, how is the quality of the printing? I have no personal experience with Lulu – is it trade-paperback-ish, or more printed like the Zagat/Michelin guides?

I myself am awaiting delivery, as it was only completed a couple of days ago (I had aimed for end of December, but whoops). Many paper and binding choices are offered, including publisher trade paper. In order to be eligible for distribution through certain outlets - Amazon, for example - the product needs to meet minimum standards, so I chose a higher grade of paper and so on. That, of course, accounts for the cover price, which is higher than I'd intended. It's about a dollar more than Zagat's list price, but it has to be - I don't anticipate doing Zagat's volume on the first edition.

Lulu does seem to be far and away the dominant vendor of online publishing services, which makes me hopeful the product won't be crap.

ETA: I might mention that if the product really is unsatisfactory for some reason or other, I can actually change specifications. This is one of the many advantages of not printing in bulk.

If you take SHO out of the recommended restaurants I'll buy two copies.
I think that is the danger of keeping a blog: you exaggerate everything

I could see you as the next NYT restaurant critic.

Wouldn't that be sweet?
