I recently purchased a Dell wide-screen flat panel monitor [IN2010N] without realizing exactly what wide-screen meant. The resolution is meant to be set to 1600x900 pixels.
I have a several-years old friend-built computer, running XP, to which it's attached. The instructions for the monitor said that, if there wasn't a 1600x900 setting in the Display-Settings, I should update the drivers from the computer manufacturer or from the graphics card site. I did so, and have only two settings to choose from: 800x600 and 1024x768.
Because pictures seems stretched out, I thought I could adjust the sides of the screen display inwards, as I have been able to do on any other monitor I've used, and thus lose some of the wide-screen effect. But it seems that I can only move the display up/down or right/left. No shrinking it inwards.
To get a more normal display, do I need to update my graphics card? I mean, the celebs on "Look lovely, be lovely" thread are fetching enough without being stretched sideways.
