Died "sitting at his desk"
The arrival of a new Spenser m/s was always something I looked forward to when I worked at Penguin and I still make sure to pick up the latest when I am passing through an airport.
Shame to think there wont be any more

Sorry to hear the news.
Incidentally, it makes me think novelists are underachievers. Derrida seems to have published a book a month since his passing, and apparently there are many more to come. Scribble, scribble, scribble.

Much as I enjoy it, I think he wrote the same book over and over again.

Pretty much true, but at least the stuff Spenser cooked changed.
"This place was the 4'33" of flavour." -- Adrian, September 18, 2011
yes sir... i get sad when i don't cook

I agree, but there was a comforting familiarity about the plots and dialogue that made reading them like slipping on a favourite pair of shoes. With interruptions for meals and a to watch a movie, a Spenser novel usually lasted for the duration of a trans-Atlantic flight and the book was always left in the seat pocket as I got off the plane. They served a purpose and served it very well. It's not a bad legacy.

The first half of the sentence tells me you mean Spenser, not Derrida.

Yes, sort of his take on Chandler-Hammett-Ross MacDonald.
