I completely missed this until I caught a round up 2009 celebrity deaths. Humorist, novelist (Billy Liar), screenwriter, I suppose his last hurrah was the improbably successful stage adaptation of a weekly column written by a famously alcoholic journalist, Jeffrey Bernard is Unwell. Peter O'Toole created the lead role.
Food enthusiasts should look out for his Theory and Practice of Lunch - an entire book on the subject - although used copies aren't as cheap as I'd expected.
