would love to find a fan to use when the a/c would be overkill. so far, this is the front runner:blizzard floor fan. anyone have this fan or another that they adore? thanks

I started to drive over to the real Disneyland, but it was getting pretty late.”

I like the big ass Patton fans. Hurricane force winds out of those things, but you don't want to use them in small spaces. I like the Vornados for that.

I think that Holmes is the same company as Patton. Very well built products.

we use a lot of fans in our house. i don't like AC and we use it only when it gets unbearable like this week. here in boston you can get away with this.
we have a whole-house attic fan which i turn in the evening after the air cools and it completely refreshes and pulls a gentle breeze through the house. won't work on humid days.
we have several window fans - all from walmart. i prefer them to floor or table fans since they don't clutter up the space.
they may be a bit noisy but it cools the room very nicely and i kind of like the hum - it feels like summer. i have one on right now in a kitchen window.
we have powerful floor fans in the basement which work along with dehumidifiers since the basement gets very damp on humid and rainy days.
In the end, it's all a rental. - hollywood

To say the least. We have a Patton floor fan that's 35 years old this year. Those babies are indestructible.

We almost never need the high speed on it, low or medium is quite sufficient. It's the 14-incher, not the 20 which would have been overkill for our apartment at the time we bought it.

Vornado is also good for smaller spaces, to be sure. All depends on whether you want the Kia or the Honda of floor fans in your home.

I have a little vornado that I use in my bedroom and have been doing so for about 8 years now. Would not think of using anything else, I use the lowest setting. It has been the best. The Vornado replaced one of those rotating vertical fans that I bought at Target that lasted 2 years then konked out. If it is a smaller space I recommend a Vornado.

It might sound crazy, but we like having noisy fans. They act as good white noise machines when we keep our windows open at night.

for once, i'm looking for a quiet fan. at my old coop, my neighbors had a duplex that shared walls with my place and their second level was the ceiling over both of my bedrooms. the neighbor was an insane coke fiend, musician who enjoyed very very loud sex with his screamer girlfriend and he gave a play by play, he had special sex music, very heavy on the bass, speakers on the floor, and they did it every hour on the hour, until they ran out of blow or condoms. he was apparently a lawyer, during the week. when i lived there i bought the noisiest a/c unit on the market, ran a ceiling fan, wore musicians earplugs or sometimes played my ipod wearing noise reduction earbuds. where i am now is marvelously quiet and i want to enjoy that to its fullest. i think, i'll go listen to some vornados at j and r music. i like the one that the drs johnson have and i like the smaller 501 vornado which i can get on some clearance sale direct from vornado.
