Any good source in Manhattan? I've bought hazelnut flour at Whole Foods, but thought it was very pricey. I see that Kalustyan's website shows almond or hazelnut flour at about $10 for 4 oz, which seems pricey.

our co-op has bob's red mill's almond flour (and other products) for $10/lb. if you are willing to risk the hippie exposure maybe look for a co-op?

Hardy hardy har, miss sassy-pants.

Amish Market has Bob's almond flour - $17 per pound. I guess I could look for a coop, but that would take more time.

By the way -- I love amish market. just had a terrific piece of mushroom pizza. Thick chewy crust, good cheese and smelly mushrooms that are annoying people all down the hall.

Maybe how to make your own nut flours from cheap Trader Joe's nuts would be interesting to explore. Primitive people have been pounding grains/nuts/seeds for a couple dozen eons. I've made yummy bread from mashed Rancho Gordo beans, too, added to regular flours.

I thought about that. But my brain is far too advanced.

With nut flours you get what you pay for. They go rancid fairly quickly. Look for a market that either has it in sealed bags in a cooler, or, if in Bulk, that it is being rotated so that what's in the bin hasn't been sitting there for weeks. Smell it and give it a taste. Nothing worse than rancid. It'll kill your dish.
