is there a decent brioche to be found in nyc or must i go back to baking my own? spent $7 for a balthazar loaf yesterday and it's just a loaf of greasy compacted dust. if i'm going to kill myself with carbs, they should be worth the price, shouldn't they?

“One thing kids like is to be tricked. For instance, I was going to take my little nephew to Disneyland, but instead I drove him to an old burned-out warehouse. 'Oh, no!', I said, 'Disneyland burned down.' He cried and cried, but I think that deep down he thought it was a pretty good joke. I started to drive over to the real Disneyland, but it was getting pretty late.”

La Bergamote makes a decent brioche. Take a xanax before you go or the clueless, not terribly friendly staff will make you run screaming from the place.

good call, miss daisy! i've had their brioche a while back but the whole experience of barely getting served has kept me from returning. it would take something stronger than a xanax, i fear.
