Sometimes I miss living in New Orleans and today is one of those days. Mardi Gras day was always so much fun with family and friends.

I have a friend who just told me that he's giving up alcohol for Lent.
He is dead to me until Easter.

My girlfriend is going to do that as well. Yeah I'm pumped about it.

We had our pancakes for lunch today, traditional English style with lemon juice and sugar.
We give up alcohol for Lent too. Not too strictly as MrsSRD's birthday falls during the fast and we have visitors one weekend. Me and mine have given up for at least a month since I was in my early twenties, it used to be for January but due to various celebrations it has migrated to Lent. And it very definitely stops on Palm Sunday, if 40 days was good enough for him it's certainly good enough for me.
Give a man a fire and he will be warm for a while. Set a man on fire and he will be warm for the rest of his life.

Excellent! Here in Britland we devote a whole day to pancakes. Neither the thick Scotch ones nor the larger US ones. We use a relatively thin batter (rather like crepes but slightly thicker) and always try to toss them in the pan with interesting results. We've had them as a savoury with bacon for lunch and will use the remaining batter to have the classic sugar and lemon sweet ones later. The more eccentric have races: Peers have swept to victory in one of the sporting highlights of Westminster life - the annual charity pancake race. Peers win
