WQXR. Opera on Saturday afternoon. Currently listening to the final act of Romeo and Juliet.
If you can get WFDU (89.1?), saturday morning offers a playlist that's up your alley. Same station at 4:00PM does some nice adult/fokie/alt type stuff.

But in general? It's ridiculous how slim the radio pickins are in this city.

No FDU, FMU is 91.x
Try it. Lotsa bluegrass early in the morning. Country on Tues and thurs, 9-1 and folk on Saturday morning and afternoon.
89.10
If ya want some hardcore metal w/o commercials, WSOU 89.5
Satelite radio is making things worse and I don't find the satelite offerings any kind of attraction, either.

On FMU, 7 PM - 8 PM on Fridays, give a listen to:
Downtown Soulville with Mr. Fine Wine (Matt Weingarten, who is also an editor of New York Magazine)
Great show, and he's a great guy too.

I was pissed when I realized that the replacement was much much worse - A Shot in the Dark. I think I had seen this movie as a child and perhaps found it amusing. Slapstick in the worst way. I don't find these Peter Sellars / Blake Edwards Inspector Cleaseau movies to be funny at all but extremely annoying. I'm sure that some people find them witty priceless classics but I found watching this film to be like nails on a chalkboard.
Also why can't domestic airlines have individual seat back tv screens? Jet Blue & Song do and they are discount airlines yet I haven't seen such an entertainment option on a major carrier on a domestic route in coach or even first class. (I did take a united 777 flight years ago that had this but have not seen it since). (I am referring to individual tv screens with options to choose from, not necessarily satellite television).

Seatback TV is in the catalogues from both Airbus and Boeing, but no major US airline chooses to purchase the package for domestic services.
If I had to guess, I'd suspect it costs more to maintain, and isn't that important to customers relative to price in their decision to purchase. The major airlines tend to be competing in a downward spiral re: service to customers
