Not having office visit or prescription drug coverage on the only health insurance you can currently afford is annoying.

mora, you know the rules: no talk of felching, spelunking or dentistry (or any combination of the three). nerow, if this is fine with you mongomania's membership sub-core-committee will consider your application (we will need a 2/3 majority of the unwilling before we can proceed and a simple majority of the willing to ratify it). stay tuned.
have you considered hanging around said dentist's home or work with your mouth open? i have a copy of "fatal attraction" that i am not currently using if you'd like some tips.

Merriam Webster's online dictionary, it's the correct pronunciation.
That dratted Merriam Webster. I'd like to beat her up.
I can still be annoyed even if it's technically correct some places though, right?

Of course I don't hang around my dentist's office with my mouth hanging open. What the hell do you think I am, a freak? With a capital F?

Do you know [writer, name spelled incorrectly]? Was he at uni with you? He always thanks a [Kiku] in his books, so I wondered if that was you!
Hope things are well…
Politely, I reply:

Yes, he's a good friend. We were at university together but didn't know each other; got to know each other during a year in the States.
I didn't know you were into SF. How are you, anyway?

Cripes. ..... Is this person completely lacking in self-awareness, stupid or just doesn't care?
At least you aren't in the position of setting up a meeting, like maybe you would have been if they had been a little better at social interactions/manipulations.
1. "Hey, that's really great! Well done, you are obviously a valued friend. How wonderful to be immortalised in such a book. Sorry to have dropped out of contact, but I have been doing [insert short, amusing and slightly personal anecdote here]".
2. Wait ~ 6-8 weeks.
3. "Hi [kiku], I am in town in a couple of weeks and it would be great to catch up on [wed, possibly thurs is best] for drink?"
See easy.

Adam: Not sure. Maybe all 3. She has had an interesting career path, anyway. From running the Asian outpost of a well-known US mega-indie to, um, doing PR for the Alpha Course. In that order.
edit: had accidentally missed out 'all' before '3', thereby entirely changing intended meaning
