Just make the buttonholes slightly smaller.

you could try replacing the buttons with slightly larger buttons. A pain, I know, but at least it would mean that the blouse wasn't a wash out.

But the buttons are so pretty. And why do I just know that my tailor will charge me a fortune to make the buttonholes smaller?

Daisy, honey, it's so easy to do that yourself. Hell, bring the blouse over and I'll do it for you.

Cathy, I kid you not, I cannot even sew on a button. Embarrassing but true. I am ahead of my mother in domestic skills--she could not sew or cook. On the other hand, I have a sister who makes window treatments, upholsters, hangs wallpaper, does wiring, etc. But she recently phoned me to ask how to roast a chicken.

Aha! I see a trade coming on. Get her to make the buttonholes smaller for you in exchange for cooking advice!

My 12 year old daugther comes home from school yesterday and she brings up a conversation about music. She goe's on to ask me if I ever heard the song Candy Shop by 50 cent. Needless to say I can not say I have so I went on to ask questions.
She say's its a nasty song dad, so I ask her where had she heard it.

My music teacher brings the CD in class and plays it.
Now I run a search and find the lyric's and now I'm in a state of panic and and to be honest down right pissed.

I've been on and off with the school all morning trying to get to the bottom of this with no luck so far.

Tell me. Am I overreacting ? I truely believe any teacher that will expose kids to this CD has a problem. I don't care if its a Teacher, Clergy or whatever, it's a warning that something is wrong with this man.

A 6:30 AM surprise: kitty puked during the night. But not on the wooden or tile floors, oh no. On my suede boots and, a double header, on the underwear I threw on the floor when undressing last night. Blech.

What a difficult question. The lyric is unmistakably about fellatio, which at first blush might seem an unsuitable subject for a teacher to raise with 12 year old girls. At the same time, the video is in rotation on MTV, which I am sure is watched by many 12 year olds. And it's not so long ago that the ridiculously catchy "Milkshake" was popular with children much younger than 12, despite the sexual subject matter. Given society's mores, I don't know if the teacher is anything worse than thoughtless. But if your daughter is made to feel uncomfortable, I think that alone means you have a point.

Overreacting? No.

On the other hand you should be immensly cheerful and proud that your daughter:

a) recognizes that it is "nasty"

b) would broach the subject with you
"You know what we need around here? More guidelines. I don't think we have enough guidelines. I mean -- look at that other place, it even has guidelines for its guidelines."

"Also, we don't "ban" people in the arbitrary fashion you are describing. It's a meticulous and careful process, which is only used sparingly." -jhlurie (now ex-officio)
