Interesting list from a new mag, Garden & Gun.

100 Southern Foods. Photos.
Makes me hungry.

The magazine is a good read. Nice photos and a clean layout. Interview with Elvis Costello. And a John Besh recipe for gumbo. And timely to Wilf's thread about nose to tail eating, new Atlanta restaurant Abattoir with a whole animal menu.

Makes me homesick. I've had 11 of the hundred. Including the livers, and the souffle potatoes (Galatoire's)--both of which I am looking forward to having again in Feb. cool.gif .

I've had my share of those. Fun to see them all in a list. The cornish hens at Cozy Corner in Memphis are good, and I was glad to see he included the rolled oysters from Louisville. Sadly, he listed the ones from Mazzoni's, which closed last year. Now, the best place to buy a rolled oyster is at Flabby's.

It's geared toward those folks who are more apt to use a Valtrompia 20 guage to shoot sporting clays at their hunt club as opposed to those who use a pump action Mossberg to shoot their neighbor's dog.

Indeed it is an interesting list. And I note that several of the featured dishes are to be had right here in Houston. I'll have to give a few of them a try!

“One thing kids like is to be tricked. For instance, I was going to take my little nephew to Disneyland, but instead I drove him to an old burned-out warehouse. 'Oh, no!', I said, 'Disneyland burned down.' He cried and cried, but I think that deep down he thought it was a pretty good joke. I started to drive over to the real Disneyland, but it was getting pretty late.”

J, The Campechana Extra at Goode Company Seafood is not to be missed.

I don't remember the other dishes in Houston cited.

Galatoire's potatoes are indeed awesome.

Intriguing list -- I'm thinking road trip.
