Elisa Ung mentioned KeyIngredient in a recent Bergen Record blog posting. The firm, run by Matt Pivnick (Rocca in Glen Rock, NJ, etc) sells a number of hummus preparations, as well as specialty soups, sauces, etc. I believe they have an active wholesale business, as well as farmers markets, etc.
I've tried their jalapeno hummus, their red pepper hummus, their potato and leek soup, and their beans, greens, and spices jar. The stuff is reasonably priced, and provides a solid base for your own improvements, or eat as is. I made up some dough, topped it with the red pepper hummus, added some shredded cheese, and had a great focaccia in 20 minutes.
In one conversation with a rep, I learned that a lot of their business is providing starter units for restaurants and professional chefs. We give you the soup base, you customize it with your choice of herbs or sausages, etc. We give you the hummus, you use it in your own preps.
KeyIngredient is in several NJ farm markets, and the Wine Library.

My only complaint was that if they need to charge me $30 because they're robbing the duck to pay the boar they might as well give me a more substantial portion of flour, water, and bits of meat.
