Any recs on what to get or what to avoid? My car has built in blue tooth.

I have a month and three days before the law kicks in.

Might one presume CA is going hands free for cell phones while driving?

My new Magellan GPS has Bluetooth for hands free mobile phone use. I haven't figured out how to use it yet. It also takes voice commands.

Well, as you all know, I still live in the dark age (see IM thread) and don't talk non-stop on my cell phone like so many, but I do like my Jawbone a lot. smile.gif

NJ implemented its hands-free cellphone rules a few weeks ago. Driving while holding a cellphone is now a primary stop offense under title 39. Previously, an officer had to see you do something else (not signal a turn, fail to stay in lane, etc) before they could stop and ticket you for the phone offense.

Hasn't made any impact as far as I can tell, but there have been complaints that some towns use the law as a way to keep an eye on non-local drivers.
My only complaint was that if they need to charge me $30 because they're robbing the duck to pay the boar they might as well give me a more substantial portion of flour, water, and bits of meat.

I don't talk non-stop either, more often than not, I don't talk at all while I'm driving, but on those occasions I do, it would be nice not to get a ticket, especially since the fines escalate with every subsequent offense. I guess I'll google Jawbone now. . . . wink.gif

My car came with a gps too that I'm too lazy to figure out how to use. The manual is as thick as the car's.

How are the cops supposed to establish probably cause for a traffic stop for someone who is talking on a hands free device or bluetooth? How will they know that they aren't singing along to the radio or speaking to the perspn sitting in the passenger seat? Or, talking to themselves? blink.gif I dictate letters and briefs during long car trips all the time. unsure.gif

I imagine that dictating would not be as distracting as having a conversation on the telephone. But that's a whole other point.

You can talk all you want as long as you're not holding the phone in your hand. I don't think the ban covers anything else, so I suppose one could hold a recorder and talk into that and be fine.
