I was wondering whether new potatoes are in season yet in New York. I know that Cherry Lane Farm sells "just dug" potatoes at the Union Square Market, but I don't recall when the season begins.

I'm answering my own question. The potatoes at Union Square Market are all from storage now.

All of the 'new' potatoes I have seen available over here come from the Mediterranean, nothing local yet.

The best ever potatoes I've tasted were new (and little) potatoes from Egypt and sold in Marks and Spencer in the mid-1980s.
