I do most of my local meat purchasing there.. I am not saying anything ground breaking when I tell you how wonderful everything is.. Service is top notch and besides that, they are just the sweetest group of guys.. Most of the people behind the counter are related.. Not to be confused with the shitty satelite stores, the one on Bleeker is the only place to consider..

Picked up some peanut fed pork there the other day.. Wonderful chops.. Meat is superb..

They wont be having it on a regular basis, so I would call to see if they have it..

Did it taste nutty?
It was not a new dish, as I recognised my tooth marks. Wilfrid

I wouldnt say nutty but, it was definitely a sweeter tasting pork.. But there was a lot more marbling then I have seen in any other pork.. Though, I must confess it was after several courses and drinks... I have a few more to try out..

That's a nicely marble edged piece of pork, Daniel. Traditionally, peanut fed pork tends to be a little greasier than grain fed pork (yum, grease!).

from the picture, it doesn't look like there was much streaking on the meat itself.
My only complaint was that if they need to charge me $30 because they're robbing the duck to pay the boar they might as well give me a more substantial portion of flour, water, and bits of meat.

You are right, it doesnt.. However, it was streaked through out..Maybe its the lighting..

Yeah, I love these guys. One of the few places in the city where you can find a bone-in pork shoulder without ordering a few days ahead.

I've never shopped there. Anytime I'm in the area or making a mission to the area to visit the butcher, I've always gone to Florence. Any comparative experiences between the two?

We ordered a rack of lamb from them nearly 20 years ago. Delivered by a guy wearing a t-shirt that read "Fuck Racism". I'm not sure why we never did it again. Except Jefferson Market is closer.

“One thing kids like is to be tricked. For instance, I was going to take my little nephew to Disneyland, but instead I drove him to an old burned-out warehouse. 'Oh, no!', I said, 'Disneyland burned down.' He cried and cried, but I think that deep down he thought it was a pretty good joke. I started to drive over to the real Disneyland, but it was getting pretty late.”

Went in there the other day to get a few tenderloins of venison.. While I was there I purchased a few frozen veal cheeks and a couple of poulet rouge frozen... Going to make the chicken for Miss A and not tell her its anything special.. Will see if she notices.

Veal cheeks might be a secret ingredient in a chili..

Other than the average supermarket? blink.gif Maybe this is a downtown/uptown divide.

I'm sure Ottomanelli's is better.
