N has been trying, without success, to find fresh kippers in NYC. (She doesn't really like the tinned ones.) Does anyone know where we could get them? They don't have them at Russ & Daughters.

I can only suggest Barney Greengrass. I don't know if it has them.

Barney Greengrass does not have them, at least not last time I was there.
My suggestion would be Brighton Beach.

I actually think I saw them at Fairway on Thursday. Call their fish counter and ask.

“One thing kids like is to be tricked. For instance, I was going to take my little nephew to Disneyland, but instead I drove him to an old burned-out warehouse. 'Oh, no!', I said, 'Disneyland burned down.' He cried and cried, but I think that deep down he thought it was a pretty good joke. I started to drive over to the real Disneyland, but it was getting pretty late.”

Citarella has kippers. BUT, the Village branch keeps them in a fridge (left of salmon & lox counter), not a freezer, even tho' the label says "Keep Frozen". So, not fresh.
It was not a new dish, as I recognised my tooth marks. Wilfrid

By the way, these were raw. You'd have to prepare them yourself.
