I want to get my wife a nice leather jacket for her birthday. Something classic and black; something she can dress up or down. Something she can return if it isn't to her liking. Something from a shop that will have numerous other options if she wants to get something else. In Manhattan.

I'm thinking department store-- Lord & Taylor?

Saks I'd bet would have an enormous selection.

Listen to Daisy.
“And another thing. You don't have to "move on" either. Not until you're ready. People say, Oh, you should be grateful. They say, Oh, it's time for you to move on. I'm like, What are you, a cop with a nightstick? I'll move on when I'm done playing the blues on my harmonica, thank you very much.

Really, people will tell you all kinds of garbage. Don't believe it.

You don't have to move on until you're ready.”

Funny you should mention. They are having a one-day online sale today. Free shipping. (I've been shopping... blush.gif )

Lord & Taylor will have a nice selection too. A bit more affordable. Be sure to check online for printable coupons before you go -- easily save you 15-20%. Savings knows no shame.

I got my leather trench coat at Lord and Taylor a few years ago, and I was pleased with their selection. I needed to have the arms shortened, and the sales clerk pointed me to a (very good) leather repair shop nearby that did an excellent job.
It's always something.

It really depends on your budget.

If you get lucky at Loehmann's or Century 21, well then you're very lucky.

I think it's very kind and very brave for Seth to want to pick out an expensive jacket for his wife. Very brave. Did I mention the BRAVE part?

Aim for a liberal return/exchange policy.

Unless he spends the savings on something for himself rather than an additional treat for the missus, and she finds out about it. THEN savings knows shame laugh.gif

Yeah, see, that's why I'm not headed to Century 21 or an online sale-- I think I have to go to a large retailer and give her something pricy she can return. She's picky and hard to shop for but I'm usually okay if I spend more than I want to!

On the web it looks like Saks has more leather than L & T, so I may have to head all the way up there. It occurred to me late that Bloomie's is in Soho, but on the web they had practically nothing in leather jackets.

Shopping at Bloomie's is like being on the subway. Yuck.

You might try Barney's, if you wanna spend the bucks. Also I saw some gorgeous leather jackets in the Calvin Klein window on Madison Ave.

With any of the department stores, you buy online you can return at the store. Not a problem.

Yes, but that's a boutique. Most boutiques, Jeffrey being the exception, allow returns for store credit only. Best to stick to department stores. Bloomingdale's is another good idea, but I agree about the crowd factor. I suggest light sedation before attempting it.

The one in Soho isn't as depressing to navigate, is it? Would it have what I'm looking for, you think?
