I guess everyone else knows about them but I just discovered how great playlists are. I don't have an ipod (still the cowan) and the computer just thinks it's a drive so there's no software needed, which I love. I sort of knew about playlists frm Windows media player but it was too weird and who knows where the file is?
I just downloaded a very small basic playlist editor and i can see making a dinner party list, a workout list (Hush. Don't laugh.), driving, etc.
I also just ordered a Zen stone for workouts, long boring walks and quick rides.

Smart playlists are the best. I have a very complicated smart playlist I use all the time for my iPod. It's pretty much the only way I listen to it.

What's a smart playlist?
Don't playlists require one to spend way too much time sorting through thousands of songs and deciding which one's to put in which order?
I have too much tv to watch.

Yes. Tell us of these Smart Playlists!

I use my player driving a lot and I'm too busy putting on my eyeliner and checking my horoscope on my mobile phone while I drive to find Julie, Do Ya Love Me? at the same time. I think playlists would handle that.
I'm thinking preprogramming a dinner party would be nice. My tastes are too weird to let my player go random.

I have several Dinner Party Playlists. Lots of Pink Martini, Karl Zero, Xavier Cugat, Django Reinhardt, and so on.

If the dinner party drags on too long, I crank up the Throbbing Gristle version of "Skinhead Moonstomp". Sends guests straight for their coats.

This would solve an ongoing problem with the musical selections of Mr. Flyfish, who has an unshakeable belief in the appropriateness of the Ramones, Jimi Hendrix and Bob Dylan for every conceivable occasion.

you set the criteria for song inclusion on a playlist and then it automatically updates to meet those. for example, to keep things fresh i have a playlist for 30 songs chosen at random that i have rated 4 or 5 stars, which have been played less than 5 times and not in the last 7 days.
