Searched for "Mongolia" on Mouthfuls, and apparently, finding information is like searching a desert.

What's in Mongolia? (Other than Mongolians). Do they have Mongolian Beef there? Or do they just call it "beef"?

Anyone been, how'd you travel? Airfare to Beijing seems reasonable enough- but add Ulan Bataar and the price triples. What about the train between these cities? Can this be navigated by dumb americans? Should they even try?

Gracias

Clearly it's time to go to bed - I thought you wanted information on Mongomania.

In all seriousness, if you're considering a trip to Mongolia (or Siberia) you should rent the series “Long Way Round”, in which Ewan MacGregor and Charley Boorman circumnavigate the earth on motorcycles via...Mongolia and Siberia. It gives one a pretty good idea of what the culture and the “infrastructure” are like in far-out former Soviet countries. Plus it's just damned entertaining.

i believe the second charlie's angels movie also has a lot of valuable cultural insight into such mongolian customs as mechanical bull-riding.
