Dreamers of garden dreams on a grand scale should search out the November issue of House & Garden, which has a feature on a 26 acre garden on a Swiss estate made by Jacques Wirtz, the Belgian who is best known in recent years for his work in the Caroussel gardens adjacent to the Louvre. Or take a look at his web site here. A master.

Just FYI, I clicked on your hyperlink, underlined "here" and gotten frozen each time. Must be haunted. I know people with 25-50,000 acre "ranches" but I honestly don't know anyone who needs to landscape a 26 acre "garden." What does this cost today, ballpark? I am not being snotty here, I am just trying to catch my breath. Twenty seven acres should be either left alone, landscaped in natives, or partially farmed and rest native. Don'tcha think?

There are those for whom a 25 acre garden is reasonable and logical. The Russel Wright garden in Garrison is 80 acres, designed within a wooded context.
I am guessing, ballpark, that a garden of this quality and magnitude would cost several million dollars, a bargain if you can afford it.
The link works fine for me. Try again.
