my mother wants a new camera, preferably digital. she's a complete novice, and so fancy features are not necessary. a simple point and shoot camera which takes decent pictures is all we need. ideally not too far above $100. any recommendations?
i have never shopped for a non-digital camera--is it possible to get decent ones in this range?

Mongo, Easy choice! Look for a Sony CyberShot...probably in the 4 megapixel range.

I think "decent" is possible. Looking over reviews, there are cameras that get 3/5 that aren't much more than $100. The HP M245 is an example (around $100 at Amazon). Closer to $150, there are better cameras like the Kodak ES C743 which gets pretty good reviews for a $150 camera.
ETA: You can always go to Mike's Camera and see if they have any recommendations. Although I'm not sure if they cater to the sub-$200 crowd, they are always helpful with me.

thanks, matt. i ended up purchasing the hp m425. it was $107 on amazon and arrived yesterday. looks decent and simple enough for my mother, who insisted she needed to be guided through turning the camera on and off.
so, this morning i logged on to amazon and found the camera was now selling for $89. called the amazon customer service number (1-800-201-7575) and they refunded me the difference.
