So, after spending four days of tourism, we decided that we both needed a break and added an FA day into our schedule. FA =Fuck All, which is what we planned to do today
Staggering out of bed at around 9am, we headed into town along the beach, shoes in hand and waves lapping at our feet. The sun, though already high in the sky was deceptively cool because of a pleasing breeze. As we walked, we talked. It is an amazing thing to be with a person who can engage you on so many levels and who loves to indulge in the commercialism of the Costa as I do. I feel blessed right now by my REAL friends
Lunch was at a small bar at Los Boliches, a neighbouring town where we sated our need for more fresh fish and a beer. It is more expensive here but the calamaritos were the best I have had in many a long while.
Then back to the flat for some R&R. Laying on our expansive terrace, I read a bad book by David Baldaci ( is there any other kind? ) and sipped on some sparkling water. Then a brief nap before preparing for the evening onslaught.
We headed out for an evening of tapaering. Trying to see how many bars we could hit in a short evening. In the end a terribly poor six, but not bad
1) Bodega Medeo for a decent cana and some very good deep fried lomo ( loin of pork ) in breadcrumbs
2) Bodega Meson Felipe for some better cana and some Iberico chorizo and some Morcilla ( blood sausage ) cooked chorizo style with lots of paprika
3) Bar Cadiz for a couple of excellent glasses of La Guita Manzanilla
4) Bar Las Rampas for just a beer
5) Bar Phillipe for some Pedro Ximinez
6) Bodega Charlois which has the best wine selection on the coast ( including, the owner showed us, a bottle of 1960 Vega Sicilia Unico ) where we had a decent glass of Pesquera and some amazing cod cakes with honey
7) Finally we ended up at a bar whose name I cannot remember but where the prettiest woman in Christendom was serving. Where we downed a couple of huge Pacharans and some blood pudding ( not like a sausage, more like blocks of blood ) in Onions, We sat chatting with her for a long while and she got her friend to drop us home at the flat.
So, while it was a day of doing nothing, Day Five proved to be the most enjoyable day of the trip so far for me.
