The Boyfriend gave me a digital camera and I'm from the old world of camera users, looking for the spot where the film goes...

Without wanting to invest in my own printer, is there a place I can send my digital pics to have them printed? Or do I take a disc of the pics to a store?

Gad, I feel so stupid...

Just about every place that developed film, now does digital. Walgreen's, for example, has all sorts of fancy stuff they do with digital photos. Target, Walmart, they all do it.

Then there are the online places like Snapfish, Kodak, Shutterfly...I've never used them, but millions do. Maybe someone here has a feel for them.

ETA: Here is a little article with some stuff. Somewhere someone did an overview of the big online services last week, but I can't seem to find it now.

Ok, since 24K started it up again, thank you very much, I want to be gifted like hollywood. Instant ability to respond with a photo. I do not have a CD burner at my desk. I do not have a scanner. Nor would I be able to lie well enough to recquisition either. Technically could bring them from home but have MAC and gangsters at home and PC and engineers at work. What camera should I buy to get by? Make it cheap.

If you use Flickr, you can can upload your pix, get an easy code to post them here and then order prints that will be sent to you. Or you can order them from FLickr and then pick them up one hour later at your local Target.

I've also ordered from Snapfish and I have to say the printing is better. They also use true digital sizes so there is no cropping (it's miniscule from the others but it's there).

Rebecca, are you asking for digital camera advice?

FWIW, 24k, a decent photo printer (usable for other printing also, of course) can be had for $200 or so.

Yes, yes...I have an Epson R340 that cost me just over $200, and it prints gorgeous photos.

The problem with the printers is fading and the expense of ink. And at least with my Epson, if I don't print regularly, it dries up and I have to clean it and I think that wastes a lot of ink.
Just a thought!

I don't want to buy a printer because, honestly, I don't have a need that often for prints. The reason it came up now is that I am looking to have a few nice prints done as Xmas gifts. I'm happy enough with my digital albums, but have a rare and occasional need for a single print or two.

Thanks for the heads-up -- I'll take a look at Flickr.

If you have a Mac you can get prints from Apple via iPhoto. Probably expensive, though.

Jes. Consumer Reports has several choices but doesn't directly address blogging rapidity or clarity. Need to step into the bright new world of digital. Been an analog girl too long. The world has passed me by, dammit. {Insert Maurice's declarative about communists here} You saw my obvious failings between the posted RG Mousse and the real photos. This was my best attempt and all I could figure out was that the Kodak discing at RiteAid was the culprit. Plus maybe being forbidden at work to let Kodak open anything on my computer. So Target would be better for developing and is in cahoots with Flickr? Closest one is 49 miles away in Ventura. If you have any extra time between beans can you post one real photo up next to a blurry one I posted previously on the New Century Appetizer thread (or whatever it was) to compare? Realize this is asking over and beyond the call of duty . . .

Okay, I'm a complete moron -- I just paid the $24.95 to upload my pics to Flickr and can't figure out how to order prints... Also, I don't have a Target near me. Did I just waste $25 bucks? Should I have gone with Snapfish instead so that prints could have been mailed?

Well, if you've uploaded a pic, when you select it, one of the items along the top (above photo, below title) is a button that says "Order Prints". It'll then go through the setup process. Here is the Flickr printing FAQ.

I've been pleased with the quality of the prints from Kodak EasyShare.
It's always something.

You paid for a pro account. You can also get a free account, but you're really limited on how much activity you can have each month. I went pro within 2 months.

As The Matt says, you order pics by clicking the Order Prints button!
