I have a diamond and platinum cross on a thin platinum chain. It was given me several years ago by someone who meant a lot to me. When I took off my sweater last night I realized it was gone. Hoping it will turn up in my office or apartment, but not optimistic. I am devastated.

Thats terrible. I know that feeling in the pit of the stomach when you realize there's probably nothing you can do but bear the loss. Oy sad.gif

Me too.

I really sympathise, Daisy: it's a terrible feeling. I so hope you find it.

Daisy
Thanks, Rose and clb. You know it's only an object, but I was horribly attached to it.

Daisy, I've noticed that pretty cross on you. I hope you find it. I lost a locket about 10 years ago - it was a little gold locket that my grandfather had given my mother when she was a little girl. I still get upset when I think about it.

Beans that won't soften and gristly sausages angry.gif Especially when said sausages are poncy upmarket types. Happened to me twice in one week: first Tavola Italian spicy sausages (these really had NO excuse), then Brindisa own-label chorizo. I'm more forgiving of the latter as I've always considered them an inferior product with a dodgy ingredient list. The nicest chorizo I know at the moment are the organic ones that come in a packet from near Segovia.

I was going to complain about sitting at desk in wet shoes and socks from the torrential downpour here, but it seems kind of trivial compared to the loss of a platinum and diamond keepsake.

ARGGGHHHHHH! I can't stand it...Now that Massachusetts has a no-call list, they can't junk-call me, but the junk faxes....And they usually come at 4 in the morning, and my office is at home....ARGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!! Not to mention what it costs in ink cartidges.....Must....kill....now....

Plus, I sometimes forawrd my phone(which has a dual fax #) to my cell phone, so I get to pay for those junk fax calls.....

Alrighty. I rent office space from a firm that has the entire floor. My shoes were so wet and squishy that I took them off so that they and my socks could dry. Just once, I went to kitchen for a bottle of water in my socks, and I got a lot of strange looks. What these folks never seen a man walking around an office in his socks before?

I hate losing such things.

Last Christmas during my parents' holiday party, I wore an antique ruby and gold circle pin that my mother had given to me. And when I took off my sweater, I discovered it was missing. I frantically told my mother and she resolutely said: "Well, it has to be in the house." I looked all over. I annouced to those around me to never EVER give me anything valuable again. I was devestated.

Four days later she asked the old cat (who is now with the angels) whom she swore helped her find things--the cat really didn't but you know what I mean-- and she found the pin buried amongst wrapping paper and ribbon basket. I have no idea how it got there as the night of the party, I had fallen asleep on a neighboring couch with one of the dogs---but not close enough to the basket. Maybe the cat did put the pin in the basket for safekeeping.

Peeling 6 lbs. of chestnuts. One word: Ow.
Daisy
Oh, I hear you. NOt good for the manicure, is it? The first time I ever attempted peeling chestnuts was the night before Thanksgiving several years ago when I misguidedly planned to make chestnut soup for something like fifteen people. I was cooking with my sister and after we finally got the buggers peeled and made into soup we attempted to puree too much at one time in the food processor and ended up coating ourselves and the kitchen with a mist of chestnut soup. Our hysterical, bourbon-fueled laughter woke up my husband, who was not happy.

Was in la-la land Monday, but apparently I have out la-la-ed it.

Arrived at the airport, went to pick up a car at Hertz to drive to my meeting, only to find that my driver license had expired, on my birthday in September, so I evidently have been driving without a valid license for nearly two months now...

How does one know these things expired? It's not like it beeps at you! As a result, I had to spend nearly two hours waiting in line at the DMV yesterday to take care of this!!

Why did they get married? For legal reasons or kids (code for "sex") etc? If not to celebrate publically your relationship and with friends and family what exactly is the point of marriage in the 21st century?

Kate has been married before, it was a big disaster, divorced by 26 after 7mths because he was having an affair. She had the big white wedding deal and I think felt a bit embarrassed about making people spend money on a second wedding e.g buy gifts, outfits. Maybe she felt this time none of all the usual wedding traditions were necessary. I have just been sent a wonderful picture of her in her very untraditional red wedding dress and I have to say she looks stunning. But I still wanted to go!

AT - not having a go at your friend in particular ( I have a friend in the same situation, not good at all), but although married myself (and a bit of a sucker for weddings in general) I can't really see the point of them from a non-legal point of view, in terms of validation of the relationship etc.

Mind you British weddings seem to be a little more serious then in Australia and the legal rights of married v de facto relationships seem to be quite different between Australian and Britopia, so maybe I am just not seeing it from a UK point of view.

I do love a good wedding though.

We got married after living together for 7 years, in this case presents were not essential (but in some instances v. good - if I ever get to leave this hell-hole I be very happy to use my complete Japanese table setting).

Some of our friends stated "No presents" on the invits - they received cheques instead much to their shame.

Have applied for Indefinate leave to stay in the UK (which makes me want to weep). For this the Home Office charges £155 pounds to consider the application. Although, various Scottish banks insist that it takes 3-5 days for an electronic fund transfer to take place, it took four hours for the Home Office to recieve the letter and remove their money from our account.

Have I mentioned that it is 4:00 PM and pitch black and it will be like this for a few months yet and I am already begining to go insane?
