On-snow ski demo days at Stratton Mountain, AKA “Testosterone Week”, during which my husband turns into exactly to sort of macho jerk I've worked so hard to avoid all these years. At least they've whittled it down to three days from five, so the recovery time is shorter. And I don't have to be there to watch.

I seem to recall you writing the exact same thing last year. Which means it must be pretty awful. sad.gif

Yup. An annual event. Not awful, just annually annoying. huh.gif
Wilfrid
Yeah, well, you have to weight that result to make it meaningful. angry.gif

That's 2.5% of my posts. Poor Nero has 10% of her posts in Annoyances. Shall we send her some flowers?

Do the same for the Cheerful thread, GG? I couldn't figure out how.

If you go to the forum in which a particular thread resides and click on the number in the “Replies” column, you'll get the stats for that thread. It doesn't work in mixed forum indexes (like “Active Topics” or “New Posts”).

Woo hoo, I finally made the top 50 of something.

I'll chip in for flowers for Nero. wink.gif

Thanks, GG.

You were that kid who told on the other kid to get himself out of trouble, weren't you. tongue.gif

Daisy- I was just in Staples where they were selling mini fan-heaters for $30. I borrow my co-workers sometimes when she's out of town and it makes such a huge difference.

I'm in the top five. ohmy.gif

I am grateful that all the venting I am able to do here makes me so cheerful in my day to day dealings. rolleyes.gif

I have one professor who doesn't know his ass from a hole in the ground.  Literally.  It is completely beyond me how this man could be allowed to teach anything.  Anything at all.  Anywhere.  To anyone.

ooh! ooh! i do! my ass is the thing the poop comes out of, and the hole in the ground is the thing the poop goes into (at least it does when i'm sober). what do i win?!!?!!

Where does it go when you're drunk?

everywhere.

i note with chagrin that i'm in the top 15 in cheerful. but most of those entries must be complaints about that thread being more active than this one. really people, look at the world we're living in.
Behemoth
Unfortunately in my case it's because I have to remind myself why I should be cheerful a lot more often than why I should be annoyed.

How many times will I have to ask Bobolink to remove me from their mailing list before they actually do it?
Abbylovi
Did you click on the link at the bottom of the email that says "Manage your subscription"? They use e-marketing software so when you do it, that should automatically unsubscribe you.

Just found out that Mr. Scorched is getting "laid off" on March 1... for an incredibly bogus reason.

Short version is that his boss hired another person to be his peer and then decided he didn't need two of them. And then offered him a -very- junior position instead, and was mystified that he didn't want the demotion.

That sucks.

Sounds like Constructive Dismissal (at least to this lay person). He should talk to a lawyer.

Anita, I'm so sorry. sad.gif Been through a husband's layoff, and it sucks big time.

Serious annoyance. Everything I entered into my Quicken accounting program since August 8 has DISAPPEARED completely. And it's not the first time this has happened.

I remember the good days, years ago when there was still such a thing as customer service in the software world, when Intuit had a forum on AOL with a representative to answer any and all service questions -- FOR FREE!

there's an extremely annoying discussion about an annoyance taking place on the "reasons to be cheerful" thread. this is the kind of bullshit that keeps the "cheerful" thread ahead of this one. will an admin please split and merge all posts that actually belong here from that thread and into this one? thanks.

Do you want to know why screening CAT scans are evil?

yes, but in the annoyances thread.

Because the prevalence of diseases that they detect in the normal population is low but the rate of false positives is high. For example, the prevalence of malignant lung nodules in the population is 1%; the rate of false positives for CT lung screening is around 10%*. So when you screen 100 people you'll pick up 10 false positives that have to be biopsied with attendant morbidity for every true positive.

*These figures aren't exact but they're in the ball park.

what does that "attendant morbidity" mean? that you can die from the biopsy procedure to confirm?

QUOTE (mongo_jones @ Feb 2 2006, 01:09 PM)

Morbidity is something going wrong, a complication -- infection at the biopsy site, adverse reaction to anesthesia, pneumothorax (air around the lungs), etc.

Some of these will result in death but that should be rare.

I love seeing a line like this when flipping through a client's medical records.

Patient is a pleasant, morbidly obese 54 year old white male . . .
