WQXR. Opera on Saturday afternoon. Currently listening to the final act of Romeo and Juliet.
If you can get WFDU (89.1?), saturday morning offers a playlist that's up your alley. Same station at 4:00PM does some nice adult/fokie/alt type stuff.

You mean WFMU? Yes, I like that one. And I do listen to WQXR but a lot of the time I feel like it's classical music greatest hits. I am also listening to the opera broadcast. And WNYC's music stuff is good a lot of the time too. WBGO too.
But in general? It's ridiculous how slim the radio pickins are in this city.

No FDU, FMU is 91.x
Try it. Lotsa bluegrass early in the morning. Country on Tues and thurs, 9-1 and folk on Saturday morning and afternoon.

I was excited that American Airlines finally changed their movies shown on Dec 1st - if I saw Must Love Dogs one more time I was going to puke in my airsickness bag.
I was pissed when I realized that the replacement was much much worse - A Shot in the Dark. I think I had seen this movie as a child and perhaps found it amusing. Slapstick in the worst way. I don't find these Peter Sellars / Blake Edwards Inspector Cleaseau movies to be funny at all but extremely annoying. I'm sure that some people find them witty priceless classics but I found watching this film to be like nails on a chalkboard.
Also why can't domestic airlines have individual seat back tv screens? Jet Blue & Song do and they are discount airlines yet I haven't seen such an entertainment option on a major carrier on a domestic route in coach or even first class. (I did take a united 777 flight years ago that had this but have not seen it since). (I am referring to individual tv screens with options to choose from, not necessarily satellite television).

Seatback TV is in the catalogues from both Airbus and Boeing, but no major US airline chooses to purchase the package for domestic services.
If I had to guess, I'd suspect it costs more to maintain, and isn't that important to customers relative to price in their decision to purchase. The major airlines tend to be competing in a downward spiral re: service to customers

Who wrote this lyric, and more importantly - why? Note especially the "hap-happiest" business.
"It's the most wonderful time of the year
With the kids jingle belling
And everyone telling you 'Be of good cheer'
It's the most wonderful time of the year
It's the hap -happiest season of all
With those holiday greetings and gay happy meetings
When friends come to call
It's the hap - happiest season of all
There'll be parties for hosting
Marshmallows for toasting
Caroling out in the snow
There'll be scary ghost stories
And tales of the glories of
Christmases long, long ago
Long ago
It's the most wonderful time of the year
There'll be much mistltoeing
And hearts will be glowing
When love ones are near
It's the most wonderful time of the year"

It's especially annoying because it's quite a cleverly constructed lyric. Looks like Pola was the lyricist (Wyle wrote the theme to 'Gilligna's Island"). Maybe I should just let this lie...
Well, he is also responsible for "The Wedding of Mr Mickey Mouse" and a musical called "Woof Woof".

I bet you were on my train this morning. I had to wait forever for the E at 14th. Then at 34th street a horde of people came into the train car and it became unbearably crowded.
I got off at 5th as did everyone else in the first few cars and so I was getting nervous I wouldn't be able to exit the car before the doors closed due to the crush of people on the platform.
Then one of the escalators wasn't operating whoch slowed the crowd down further.
I got to work later than I wanted.

The car may be worth much more in parts value to a chop shop than it is as an operable vehicle. One of the magazines did an article which described a $12,000 four year old Civic as containing more than $50,000 worth of parts to a body shop.

Sears advertises a "die hard" battery which contains reserve power. Designed specifically to reserve power to restart the car. I'm guessing that it senses when the engine is off, but auxiliary power demands (headlight, dashlights, radio, etc) continue. It cuts off output at a set threshold.
