For a long time, I've wanted to start a line of food-based perfumes. Vanilla extract, of course, but also Dijon mustard.

Fortunately (or un- ?), others have beat me to it.

suzanne, let me introduce you to the concept of farting...

i am a discreet perfume wearer as well--always better to smell good than bad; never good to smell strongly (whether good or bad). patchouli offends me more than drakkar noir does anyway--and boulder is a dangerous place for patchouli-phobes.

The first instance of "mongo jones" and "discreet" used in the same sentence.

Well, same post anyway.

I have the same problem, with Paula Wolfert's new book. It was 24.99 or something similar to avoid free shipping. So I ordered a CD to get the free shipping. So far the CD has arrived!

I can't believe you BOUGHT one. Don't you think she'd have some laying around her house that she could whip out and autograph for ya?

Last time I ordered on Amazon, I was 60 cents short for the free shipping. I went through their sale items and found something for 80 cents (a calendar magnet). Voilą!

You ask your new broker to do it for you, takes a few days and there are no fees.

Info here.

I was mistaken about maintenance fees; your account is charged $15 quarterly if the total liquidation value of your account is below $2000.

thanks orik, mora.

i will look into this on return from madison. my stocks are currently worth around $5000 so i should be exempt from fees. i don't even know why i am even still holding on to my oracle stock, except, of course, inertia. though i thank ellison for making my life easier by acquiring siebel. once that goes through my portfolio will only have one company's stock in it.

i only bought stocks to begin with--during the few years when i made a non-academic salary that allowed the possibility of capitals gains investments--because it seemed like a way of behaving like an adult.

A message on the machine asks me to call 718, fast mumble, 6 fast mumble, mumble...to confirm my reservation at Peter Luger. Three passes and I arrive at a telephone number. I call the number and realize that I've got at least one digit wrong. Another pass yields the correct number. I call to confirm. OK. Then I say that I wish someone would ask the young woman who makes the initial call to speak a little slower when leaving the phone number and tell the man that it took three passes and a wrong number for me to get to them. He says, huffily, that she's not likely to change the way she does it, because she's been doing that way for a long time. I say, I can't believe I'm the only person who has commented on this. He says most people are more tolerant. I say, I'm tolerant, but it isn't a question of tolerance. I passed the information along because I thought they might be interested in better serving their customers.

Question: should I cancel the rezzie or just be prepared to eat the shoe leather they will undoubtedly serve me as payback?

you can actually look the scores up and get more information. Usually the accepted people with low scores are either minority or have some sort of outstanding circumstance- like someone who served in the military and has a purple heart.

I got a letter from my mortgage company saying that the borough is reporting delinquent taxes for my property and that I now owe $211 by the end of the month or they will charge escrow again. I live in a co-op--isn't the building responsible for paying real estate taxes? Or does my mortgage company not know the difference between co-ops and condos?

Well, after 2 phone calls and lots of work by a very nice lady in customer service, it was determined that my mortgage company apparently classified my loan as for a condominium, not a co-op. Who know why that happened--they do have my stock certificate on record. Hopefully the phone calls, a fax, and a lot of follow-up nudging will clear things up.

After two weeks of not being staffed, my employer had the nerve to place me on a project. I was just getting used to being paid to hang out. laugh.gif

My project requires driving to my client's offices and I am now the proud driver of a white Dodge Stratus. ... which reminds me ... It was difficult finding a garage in he West Village that had availability for a new monthly customer who wasn't willing to sign a long term contract. As I only know that I am on this project for a month at a time, I can't commit to the 2 month minimum that some garages demanded. One garage had the nerve to quote me $600 a month + tax. I ended up finding one for $400 including tax - which I am thankfully getting reimbursed for.

our stupid performance reviews are due tomorrow, at 9am. What kind of deadline is that?!? At least give us until close of business. 1 person on my floor just realized that the deadline was 9, and all of a sudden there is a flurry of activity and everyone is now doing their reviews because we were all leaving it until tomorrow. I suppose I should be pleased because, while this financial institution has seemly gotten no better at fractions, at least this year we seem to be having fewer than 4 quarterly reviews, as opposed to the last two years when I swear there were 8 of them a piece.
