Would starting a thread (or a discussion on current thread) about the vagaries of the health insurance system be a political discussion by proxy? Am I using the term "by proxy" correctly in this instance?
Not having office visit or prescription drug coverage on the only health insurance you can currently afford is annoying.

My dentist is so hot, and now he can't gaze into my mouth anymore unless I give him cash.

mora, you know the rules: no talk of felching, spelunking or dentistry (or any combination of the three). nerow, if this is fine with you mongomania's membership sub-core-committee will consider your application (we will need a 2/3 majority of the unwilling before we can proceed and a simple majority of the willing to ratify it). stay tuned.
have you considered hanging around said dentist's home or work with your mouth open? i have a copy of "fatal attraction" that i am not currently using if you'd like some tips.

Politely, I reply:

Yes, he's a good friend. We were at university together but didn't know each other; got to know each other during a year in the States.
I didn't know you were into SF. How are you, anyway? |

Cripes. ..... Is this person completely lacking in self-awareness, stupid or just doesn't care?
At least you aren't in the position of setting up a meeting, like maybe you would have been if they had been a little better at social interactions/manipulations.
1. "Hey, that's really great! Well done, you are obviously a valued friend. How wonderful to be immortalised in such a book. Sorry to have dropped out of contact, but I have been doing [insert short, amusing and slightly personal anecdote here]".
2. Wait ~ 6-8 weeks.
3. "Hi [kiku], I am in town in a couple of weeks and it would be great to catch up on [wed, possibly thurs is best] for drink?"
See easy.

Has anyone remarked on this? The cable system that owns the two channels the Mets are usually televised on is fighting with the cable company I get. The company with the two sports channels wants to charge my system more money for the rights to televise the games. My system will not pay and will not go to binding arbitration. The result is that I have yet to watch a single Mets game this season, because they are not being shown.
